Lights,
Camera,
You!
Your guide to stepping in front of the lens, staying relaxed, and confidently sharing your story.
Hello and Welcome
Before Your Filming
A couple of weeks before the shoot, we’ll send you two key documents to help you feel prepared.
1. Filming Itinerary
It’s got everything you need to know including:
- when and where to arrive
- how long we’ll need you
- what scenes you’re in
- if you need to bring any props.
2. Interview Questions
No need to memorise answers! We want a natural, conversational feel on the day, so just focus on key ideas or bullet points.
What to Wear
These tips will help you look great on camera, but feeling comfortable and confident matters most, even if that means bending a few “rules”.
We recommend
- Go For Rich Colours – Blues, greens and purples look fantastic on camera and flatter most skin tones.
- Neutrals Always Work – Browns, creams, beiges, and greys are also safe, classic choices.
- Black Can Be Tricky – It absorbs light, so it’s better for trousers or skirts. If you wear black on top, pair with a colourful jacket, sweater, or scarf to keep things lively.
- Stick to Matte Fabrics – Natural fabrics like cotton help prevent any unwanted shine under the lights.
- Stay On-Brand – Whether you’re aiming for a sharp business look or a casual vibe, dress in a way that represents your brand while still feeling like yourself.
Try to avoid
- Intense Colours – Bright reds and oranges can be overpowering on screen.
- Pure White, Pastels & Neon – These can wash you out under the lights.
- Busy Patterns – Pinstripes, polka dots, or loud prints can be distracting. If you love patterns, balance them with a solid piece like a blazer.
- Logos – Unless it’s yours!
- Chunky Jewelry & Noisy Accessories – They can steal attention or interfere with sound.
The Day of the Shoot
Now it’s time to bring your story to life. The day has two key parts: your interview and the cutaway shots. Here’s what to expect.
Part 1. The Interview
Think of it as a conversation.
It’ll take about 30 minutes. We’ll ask you the questions we sent, but we’ll also let things flow naturally based on what you share.
Arrival
You’ll walk into a fully prepared set. Depending on the setup, you may be seated or standing.
Mic Check
We’ll clip on a small mic and do a quick sound check by asking what you had for breakfast. (Fun fact: The usual answer is “nothing.”)
Answer in Full Sentences
Since our questions won’t be in the video, include part of the question in your response. (“For breakfast this morning, I had… nothing.”)
Forget the Camera
Make eye contact with your interviewer to keep things natural. (This also helps us hypnotise you into saying anything we want.)
Drink Water
Talking can leave your mouth dry. We’ll have some H2O on hand to keep you refreshed.
Don’t be Afraid of Mistakes
This isn’t live TV. Just pause and start again. Remember, it’s our job to make sure you look great in the edit.
Part 2. The Cutaways
The shots that bring your story to life.
That's a Wrap!
Once filming is done, we’ll sort through the footage to create a rough cut, which you’ll receive in about 2–3 weeks for review and feedback.
After that, we’ll refine everything to make sure it looks and sounds amazing.
The entire process usually takes around a month.
FAQs
Will I get help with styling or makeup?
While we don’t usually provide full styling or makeup, we’re happy to offer guidance on your look. We’ll also have a mirror on hand for final checks, plus a quick anti-shine touch-up if needed. And of course, we film with flattering lenses to make sure you look great on camera.
What if I'm late to the shoot?
No worries if you’re running late! Just give us a heads-up, and we’ll adjust the schedule by shifting your slot and rearranging other sections to make sure we still have time for your contribution.
What if I get nervous during the interview?
We know being in front of a camera can be scary! Take a few deep breaths and remember that it’s a conversation, not a performance. Also try consciously speaking slower. Finally, remember that it’s our job to ensure you come across well and there are many editing techniques we can use to make sure that happens.
What if I feel uneasy with a question or topic?
We’re here to support you. If a question makes you uncomfortable, just speak up and we’ll adjust the conversation accordingly.
Can we repeat some questions if I mess up?
Absolutely! We’ll often ask the same question more than once anyway to ensure we have different phrasing options in the edit, or for more clarification. Feel free to answer them as naturally as you did the first time.
Do I need to be good at acting?
No, not at all! We’ve worked with thousands of people over the past 18 years, and the key to natural footage is simple: giving direction at the right moments. We never ask you to “act,” but we do guide you when needed to keep things flowing. By setting up real situations and letting you react naturally, you’ll come across just like yourself on camera.
